I sell software for a living and had never opened Xcode before August. Screen Night is what came out of it. Screen Night is an iPhone app that tracks the TV shows you watch, tells you when the next episodes air, and lets you see what the friends you invite are watching with no public profiles, ads or tracking.
I built it with Claude Code on SwiftUI, SwiftData and Supabase, with show data from the free TVmaze API. A few things I learned the hard way:
• Supabase caps a query at 1,000 rows and still answers 200 OK. My second device silently pulled half my history. Page until you get an empty page.
• TVmaze drops requests long before it rate-limits you. 44 at once: 20 worked. 8 at a time: 42 of 44 in four seconds.
• An AI will write a test that passes against broken code. I now watch every new test fail before I keep it.
• Getting air times right is harder than it looks. NBC and CBS air "8/7c" shows at 8 in New York and 7 in Denver, but the data only has the Eastern time, so every alert had to learn the local-clock rule.
It's $1.99/month or $12.99/year after a 7-day free trial. I made it, and I'm happy to talk about any of the build.
I'm also happy to provide a perpetual free promo code and would love any feedback. DM me if you would like one.
