Running an SEO agency, I was spending $1,700+ a month on SEO tools. Most of that went unused. The team would pull data in bursts when onboarding a client or building a report, then barely touch the tools for weeks. We were paying for the whole month either way, and every new hire meant another seat. So I built an internal tool where we only paid for what we actually used. Over about a year, I kept adding to it until it covered everything we'd been paying the big suites for, and we ran our agency's clients on it the whole time. Across those accounts, it drove 6.31M impressions and 157.7K clicks. Last week I turned it into a product called FlexQueries. $0/mo subscription. You load a balance and pay per action, and the balance never expires. Keyword research is about $0.05 a search, a full site audit is about $0.48, an AI visibility check is about $0.32, and rank tracking is about $0.70 a month per keyword set. If you have a slow month, you pay almost nothing. It covers keyword research, content gap analysis against competitors, keyword clustering, content briefs, rank tracking, site audits, backlinks, local SEO, and AI visibility tracking across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode and ChatGPT. It also connects to Claude through MCP, which is how we run most of the agency work now. Weekly rank checks, audits, reviews and client reports run as scheduled tasks, and the team mostly reviews and approves instead of pulling data by hand. For the first customers outside the agency, I cold emailed 100 solo SaaS founders. They have the same problem we had, needing SEO in bursts but paying a flat fee every month. 56 opened, 21 clicked, and one reply came from a founder whose team was paying $500+ a month on seats for another tool. His team ended up switching over. There's free credit when you sign up, and no card needed, so you can try it without spending anything. I'd really like feedback, especially from anyone who's paid for Ahrefs or Semrush. Which features would you need as a must have? And does pay-per-use feel cheaper to you, or does it feel worse than a flat fee somehow?
