I've been working on a side project called Roost and I'm at the point where I need other people to try it and tell me what's broken. Basically it's a group chat on your phone with Claude Code (and Codex if you use it) running on your own computer. You text it what you want, the work happens on your machine, and your phone buzzes when it has a question or it's done. I got tired of either sitting at my desk watching long jobs or walking away and coming back to find it stopped 5 min in on a question only I could answer. Auto mode handles permissions but it can't pick between two approaches for me. A few other things it does: it picks a lighter or heavier model depending on the job so your plan lasts longer, for bigger stuff one agent writes a plan and another critiques it before anything gets built, and it runs checks after changes and tells you in normal words if they passed. It's free and MIT licensed, and there's no account or anything. It runs on the Claude/Codex plans you already pay for, and your phone connects to your computer through Tailscale. Mac, Windows and Linux. How Claude helped: honestly it built most of it. Almost all of it was done in Claude Code, and the last few weeks mostly from my phone using Roost itself. Opus did the heavy stuff (the model routing, the plan/critique back-and-forth, porting to Windows) and I reviewed and steered. It also wrote most of the tests that run on Mac, Windows and Linux on every change, which is the only reason I could ship Windows support without owning a Windows PC. Biggest thing I learned was making it say the plan back in a couple lines and wait for me to say go before building anything. That saved way more time than it cost. https://github.com/garrettjohnsondev/roost Mainly curious whether the install works on your setup (especially Windows/Linux), what was confusing in the first 10 min, and what would stop you from actually using it day to day. Comments or GitHub issues both work. Thanks to anyone who tries it.
